Lombardy on the road..

Lombardy: wonderful views to see on the road.

Lombardy offers motorcyclists routes and itineraries to satisfy all desires for discovery, adventure, fun and relaxation.

The landscape is one of lakes, rivers, mountains and valleys, as well as art cities and small, historical villages where you can discover traditions, the pleasure of good food and the culture of wine.

Itineraries plunge you into tranquil natural scenery, on roads alongside the lakes, where you can ride on peaceful lanes that meander through vineyards or enjoy the thrill of daring curves at height. Other roads lead to small villages, where you can spend a day that is different from usual, perhaps at a local festival.

More adventurous motorcyclists will head for the mountains of Lombardy, with their winding roads, sometimes very narrow, and wonderful views after every bend.

Some routes take you over epic passes, such as the Stelvio, in the national park of the same name, well known to lovers of winter sports and enjoyed by those who seek true contact with nature.

There are also some inspiring road tours from the Brescia foothills of the Alps down to Lago d'Iseo, where the island of Montisola draws your gaze, inviting you to discover the ancient traditions of the fishermen.

More splendid destinations include the other lakes of Lombardy, some of the most famous in all of Italy - Lake Maggiore, Lake Garda and Lake Como. Low season is the best time to enjoy the wonderful feeling of total freedom by the lakes, when you can ride easily along traffic-free roads.

For expert motorcyclists there is the Strada della Forra, one of the world's most beautiful roads, which climbs from Lake Garda up to the Tremosine plateau, with tight curves cutting through rock and fabulous views dropping down to the lake.
Lombardy also has many lovely villages, reached on itineraries offering panoramic routes and harmonious curves, a journey into past times, where you can enjoy traditional cuisine.

Among those most worth a visit are San Benedetto Po, where you are met by its massive mediaeval piazza, Soncino with its fortress and Sabbioneta, another culinary destination for its traditional Mantua tortelli di zucca.

For a whole weekend devoted to tasting, the Franciacorta Wine Trail is an excellent solution.  Tarmac roads and dirt tracks wind for 80 km through grapevines, towers and castles, cellars and farmhouses where you can taste the world's most famous bubbles.

Oltrepò Pavese is another area that is perfect for a food-and-wine, on the road journey, with its prized wines and famous products such as salame di Varzi.
There is certainly no lack of variety of scenery and opportunities to enjoy the pleasure of being on the road.

Whether you're leaving for a day out, for the weekend, or for a longer journey, in Lombardy your love of motorbikes can be freely expressed and you can experience a multitude of places.
