Mountain Shelters in Lombardy

Exciting ski tours, snowshoe hikes in the unspoiled nature, hospitality of home and genuine cuisine.

High altitude holidays, spent in a lodge, is an alternative for anyone who wishes to enjoy a truly relaxing experience or a more adventurous and fun one, far from traditional tourist locations.

The high altitude mountain lodges provide hospitality even for skiers and ski climbers who can have refreshments here after outings, alpine skiing or trekking, or sleep in the bivouacs inside the lodges.

Some of the mountain lodges are modern and well-equipped, others offer a simpler form of hospitality and fewer services. In either case they are the best way to plunge oneself into nature and enjoy wonderful mountain landscapes surrounded by peace and fresh air.

Each valley has ancient traditions that one can get discover and get to know in a mountain lodge holiday. The tradition for food and wine is one of the most enjoyable surprises one discovers by staying or paying a visit to a mountain lodge, where typical dishes are still served based on the recipes of old such as the stuffed Casoncelli, the Pizzoccheri, a variety of short tagliatelle, Jugged Hare, Buckwheat Polenta, Knodels and apple strudel. And there's no lack of locally produced cheeses and other fresh and genuine products.

The mountain landscapes of Lombardy are ideally suited to be viewed along the many paths that run past streams and lakes, and through woodland. The mountain lodges are an excellent point of departure for outings and for other alpine sports.

Many of the mountain lodges also organise plenty of activities for all the family and particularly for the young, as a way to totally immerse them in their surroundings. Adventurous outings, cultural events, concerts and open air shows are just a few of the activities that can be experienced while staying at a mountain lodge.

In the mountainous regions of Lombardy, where trekking is often practised, there are 160 mountain lodges, that may be reached by car or by cable car or chair lift, or along paths suited for Mountain Bike riding.
