Brera Picture Gallery
The Brera Picture Gallery displays ancient and modern masterpieces and it is one of the most visited museums in Milan.
Art lovers will find numerous reasons to enjoy tourism in Milan: the cultural destinations of the historic district will dazzle them, starting with museums such as the collections of Palazzo Brera.
It was erected near the Fine Arts Academy by command of Maria Theresa of Austria in 1776. She initially wished to collect illustrious artworks to help with the training of her students.
Napoleon then transformed it into one of various museums in Milan that displayed paintings from territories conquered by the French.
Visitors at Brera Picture Gallery can admire the Lamentation of Christ by Mantegna, Supper at Emmaus by Caravaggio, the Marriage of the Virgin by Raphael, the Kiss by Hayez and many other by important artists: Bramante, Giovanni Bellini, Fabriano, Tintoretto, Canaletto, Lorenzo Lotto, Piero della Francesca, Mattia Preti, Umberto Boccioni and Georges Braque.
A few spaces are dedicated to temporary exhibitions, while the rest is reserved for events and conferences regarding tourism and current subjects.
