If it were not for the “Palio del Ticino”, which is re-enacted every year with various contests (archery, running and boat racing), few people would know the story of the incredible naval battle fought between the Milanese and the Venetians in 1431, at which the Visconti river fleet, captained by Pasino degli Eustachi from Pavia, defeated the terrifying Venetian fleet as it attempted to besiege Pavia. Six centuries have passed, but the victory is still celebrated to this day.
