Oltrepò Land of Pinot Noir

On September 21–22, 2024, the Oltrepò Pavese welcomes the fifth edition of “Oltrepò: Land of Pinot Noir”, the wine event dedicated to the region’s signature grape. Organized by the Consorzio Classese Oltrepò Pavese, the event offers an even richer program this year and, for the first time, opens not only to industry professionals but also to wine lovers and enthusiasts.

An exceptional location: Golferenzo, one of Italy’s most beautiful villages

The event takes place in Golferenzo, officially recognized as one of Italy’s most beautiful villages. Its cobbled streets and rolling vineyards will provide the backdrop to two days celebrating the Pinot Noir of Oltrepò Pavese, a grape variety that finds its finest expression here.

The highlights: Classese DOCG and Pinot Noir vinified in red

The event will showcase two distinct yet complementary styles of this varietal:

• the Metodo Classico DOCG, now officially named “Classese”;

• the Pinot Noir DOC vinified in red, elegant and traditional.

On September 21, a day dedicated to the public, 30 wineries will present their wines at tasting tables. Opening hours: 10:30 AM to 6:00 PM.

Blanc de noirs and the birth of “Classese”

A special focus will be on blanc de noirs, the Metodo Classico made from Pinot Noir grapes vinified in white.
Earlier this year, the Consorzio approved a new production regulation introducing the name Classese and stricter rules to further enhance the quality and identity of Oltrepò Pavese Pinot Noir.

A milestone: 160 years of Metodo Classico in Oltrepò

The year 2024 also marks a historic milestone: 160 years since the birth of Metodo Classico in Oltrepò Pavese.
It was 1865 in Rocca de’ Giorgi when the first sparkling bottles were produced. Today, that legacy continues with a bold vision: to make Oltrepò Pavese the first Denomination in the world entirely dedicated to Metodo Classico made from Pinot Noir vinified in white.
