La Nuit Des Trépassés - The Breton Legend
THURSDAY 31 OCTOBER 2019, 08.30 PM
In the mysterious night of the Dead, Villago and Villa Sormani of Missaglia propose an evening dedicated to the dark Breton legends and the Celtic culture, through a path along the ancient pagan beliefs related to the world of the Dead, to rediscover the ancient European roots of an ancient festival celebrated October 31st.
A magical evening immersed in mystery, where spectators will be transported to the dream universe of Souls and Darkness, through the park and the suggestive halls of the villa, in the darkness of the night where it will be possible to confront the sensation of the unknown. Even today, in Brittany, night vigils are a blast from the Celtic past to listen to stories and legends.
The evocative path will begin in the fourteenth-century church of the villa, where the floor preserves the Dead of the Plague of the seventeenth century. Leaving the church, the participants will experience the feeling of darkness, continuing the journey in the darkness of the park accompanied only by the light of a torch. Along the way, the living narrative voices of Count Uva and the writer will tell the mysterious stories of the villa and its ghosts, of Ankou, the ferryman of Death in Brittany, and of the Druidesses, the Celtic Priestesses of the island of Sein.
The path will end in the Music Room, where the writer Susy Zappa will end the evening with stories and images taken from her travels and her books. Spectators will be delighted by the sound of the original Celtic harp with engaging instrumental and cantatas taken from the repertoire of Breton music.
At the end of the evening, in the villa’s dining room, tasty traditional Breton cakes will be served accompanied by cider.
In the Celtic calendar, the feast of Samain is the beginning of the new year, celebrated today as Halloween. Samain’s night belongs neither to the year that ends, nor to what begins; it is a night out of time, where the World of Spirits meets that of the Living. A return to the roots to reconnect with a Celtic past, a night, where everything can happen.
