Festa dell'Assunta 2024

Change of format with a return to the origins for the 2024 Feast of the Assumption: the Madonna del Po will be honored as per tradition on 15 August, the solemnity of the Assumption, but the celebrations will begin the previous day with two events on the Great River in Cremona.

It is a way to pay homage to the late Don Aldo Grechi, creator of the event, who in his time had already introduced the initiatives on the Eve of the Assumption; with this innovation the organizers also hope to give further impetus to the event, which in recent years had seen a decline in participation but remains an important event for the faithful and enthusiasts of the Great River.

On Wednesday 14 August at 5.30pm the rowers of the coastal clubs will leave with the statue of the Madonna di Brancere towards Punta Cristo, where the blessing is scheduled; then at 8.30pm the river procession will take place from the Canottieri Flora to Largo Marinai d'Italia, which can be followed on foot along the Lungo Po Europa, concluding with the recitation of the rosary.

On Thursday 15 August the day will open with the 11am mass in the Cathedral of Cremona, while at 3pm the usual river procession will begin with the blessing of the rowing clubs in the direction of Brancere (a hamlet of Stagno Lombardo) where the arrival is expected at 4pm: 30; here, after the homage to the deceased from the Po floods, the Holy Mass will be held.
