DE PROFUNDIS
Cantus In Memoriam Benjamin Britten
The Canova Chamber Orchestra presents a concert dedicated to four great composers: John Dowland, Benjamin Britten, Arvo Pärt and Johann Sebastian Bach.
A journey through four centuries of music, from the English Renaissance to contemporary minimalism.
The program opens with Flow my Tears by Dowland (1596), in Enrico Pagano's transcription for chamber orchestra. This is followed by Lachrymae, op. 48 by Britten (1950), variations for viola and strings on Dowland's theme, an ideal bridge between the past and modernity, echoed by Pärt's Cantus in Memoriam Benjamin Britten (1977).
Closing Ich habe genug, BWV 82 (1727) by Bach, cantata for bass, oboe and strings.
