Royal gardens of monza

The neoclassical Villa Reale di Monza, built by the Empress Maria Theresa of Austria in 1777 as a summer residence for her son Ferdinand of Austria-Este,  is not the only wonder to behold when you visit the site: even the Royal Gardens of Monza are a spectacle of unparalleled beauty.

In addition to architecture, paintings, frescoes, sculptures and antique furniture, the property includes a garden area waiting to be explored, offering peaceful tranquillity and natural hidden beauty.

The Royal Gardens, along with the villa, were designed by the architect Piermarini, who was initially inspired by the French style, with geometric and regular designs, with the subsequent desire to symbolically link the Palace of Monza to the city of Milan through an avenue with a double row of trees. The aim was to highlight even more, thanks to the gardens, the power and magnificence of the prince.

While the gardens of Villa Reale offer visitors incomparable views, they also play an important role in Monza's ecological and natural environment since they serve as a refuge for many plant and animal species. With an area of ​​about 40 hectares, the gardens are home to a wide variety of ancient trees known as green giants, particularly two monumental oaks that have lived here for two centuries.

Strolling through the grounds, visitors will encounter a beautiful, almost magical place: the rose garden. Nestled on a rolling terrain and well-integrated with the surrounding environment, in addition to having a pond in its centre, the garden has paths that allow visitors to admire the area in all its splendour.
