Luigi Conconi and Scapigliatura
Exhibition
From November 6, 2026, to March 14, 2027, the Orangerie at the Royal Palace of Monza will host a major retrospective exhibition dedicated to Luigi Conconi (1852–1917), an artist who was among the leading figures of the Milanese cultural scene at the turn of the 20th century and a prominent exponent of the Scapigliatura.
The exhibition, curated by Simona Bartolena, produced and organized by ViDi cultural, in collaboration with the Villa Reale and Monza Park Consortium, under the patronage of the City of Monza, brings together more than 100 works—including paintings, drawings, and engravings—from major public and private collections, enabling the general public to rediscover and appreciate one of the most original figures of the Scapigliatura and a vibrant protagonist of the Milanese cultural scene of his time.
To introduce and explore the context in which Conconi’s artistic exploration took shape, the exhibition also features works by the three founders of the Scapigliatura movement—Tranquillo Cremona, Daniele Ranzoni, and Giuseppe Grandi – as well as works by other authors associated with Scapigliatura circles, from Vespasiano Bignami to Paolo Troubetzkoy, and even Gaetano Previati, with whom Conconi shared a studio.
