Appuntamento in Giardino 2026
"Appuntamento in Giardino" (Date in the Garden) is the national awareness-raising event dedicated to Italy's parks and gardens. A living cultural heritage, to be rediscovered and experienced through openings and activities. The 2026 edition will be held at Villa Arconati on June 7th.
The initiative is promoted by APGI (Associazione Parchi e Giardini d'Italia) and has been held since 2018 (the European Year of Culture) in collaboration with Ales Spa and with the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and ANCI (National Association of Italian Municipalities). In 2026, the initiative also benefits from the patronage of the European Commission and the National Committee for the Celebration of the Eighth Centenary of the Death of Saint Francis of Assisi.
Conceived as a true "garden festival," the event was created in conjunction with the "Rendez-vous aux Jardins" initiative, which takes place simultaneously in over 20 European countries.
The event, which aims to invite the general public to discover the astonishing historical, artistic, botanical, and landscape richness of Italian gardens, will be an opportunity to introduce the public to gardens that are normally closed and to expand the possibilities for enjoying those that are regularly open.
As in previous editions, many stakeholders will be involved: gardeners, botanists, landscape architects, private owners and public managers, important foundations and associations, with the aim of describing the universe of the garden, its fragility, its cultural and environmental significance, and its importance for the well-being of individuals and the community. For this reason, the event will also offer the opportunity to inform the general public about the activities necessary to care for, restore, and protect gardens.
Each year, a different theme is proposed: an invitation to constantly reconsider gardens.
Theme 2026: "The View"
A renewed perspective on the garden, to understand its values, interpret the signs of history, and be surprised by its beauty.
What do we see when we observe a garden? Sight, perhaps the noblest and most rational of the senses, helps us understand its forms and style and accompanies us, step by step, towards emotion. But the garden is more than just a physical place: it is a concentration of memories and dreams. It is the place where, since time immemorial, ways of being in the world have been experimented with, between nature and culture. The 2026 theme is an invitation to multiply our gazes on the garden, to decipher its complexity, to reach the invisible through the visible.
