The hidden natural treasures and landscapes between the provinces of Bergamo and Lecco are just perfect for turning summer into an outdoor voyage of discovery. 

 

 It doesn’t always have to be about far-flung or monumental destinations. Sometimes, all you need is a trail through the meadows, a water-crossed valley, an old stone village, or a walkway suspended between the rocks, just to rediscover the wonder of a surprise.  Here the surprise is always just around the corner: after a climb; around a bend; in a quiet village or listening to the noisy waters crashing down through the rock walls. This is a hidden, more spectacular side of Lombardy, full of places to be approached slowly, inquisitively, where every outing can become a treasure hunt.

Lake Branchino (BG)
Lake Branchino, between Val Brembana and Val Seriana, is a little alpine gem, set in the landscape of the Bergamasque Alps. The lake itself sits in a natural valley between the Corno Branchino and Corna Piana peaks, surrounding by meadows, grassy slopes and rocky profiles that change colour with the daylight.

The Corni di Canzo, in the Triangolo Lariano offer one of the most recognisable mountain profiles in the area. The three rocky peaks stand between the eastern branch of Lake Come, Val Ravella and the Valmadrera side, with a clear silhouette that is easy to identify, even from a certain distance.

A Fuipiano Valle Imagna, in the province of Bergamo, the district of Arnosto is one of the places that best reflects the rural, mountain identity of Valle Imagna. It sits at an altitude of 1033 metres, along a plateau just upstream of the village of Fuipiano, on the route of an ancient road.

Valle del Giongo (BG)
In the Sedrina area, in the province of Bergamo, Valle del Giongo is one of the most secluded, green areas of the foothills of the Bergamasque Alps. The area is part of the natural system of Canto Alto and the Valle del Giongo, recognised as a Special Conservation Area within the Parco dei Colli di Bergamo natural park. It is a woody valley, with very few houses, crossed by a river of the same name, which flows down towards Brembo near Botta di Sedrina. Water is a constant for a large part of this itinerary: it flows through rocks, shaded areas, small wells, and waterfalls, giving the valley its cool, secluded nature.

Orrido di Bellano (LC)
Orrido (a very deep ravine, literally "horrid") of Bellano stems from the strength of Pioverna river, whose icy waters dug deep into the Valsassina mountains, eroding then to create an amazing gorge. The sheer power of nature and the deafening sounds of the water flow take your breath away, and you are left admiring Orrido stuck in an astonished yet respectful silence. This natural wonder was formed 1,5 million years ago, with the Pioverna torrent that has drawn the sinuous lines between Taceno and Lake Como. The rift is narrow and deep, which has also defined the pace of life of Bellano on Lake Como.
