6th International Lawil rally 2026

The charming town of Varzi, in the Province of Pavia, will host the 6th International Lawil meeting on 11–12 July 2026. Organised by the Registro Storico Lawil in collaboration with the Lawil Club Italia, the event is expected to welcome Lawil microcars and enthusiasts from across Europe.

The gathering promises to be a colourful celebration for both classic vehicle enthusiasts and the local community. The idea was born in 2016 thanks to Matteo Alberto Sales, a classic car enthusiast from Bologna, who created a social media community dedicated to Lawil, the Italian car manufacturer based in Varzi. The company produced its distinctive microcars from 1967—initially under the Scattolini name—until 1991, when production ended in Varzi.

In the early 1970s, the Lawil factory in Varzi, in the heart of the Oltrepò Pavese, began manufacturing a remarkably compact two-seater measuring just 178 cm in length. Cheerful, colourful and powered by a Lambretta engine, the little car quickly became a symbol of Italian ingenuity.

The first Varzina—named after its hometown of Varzi—was produced in 1971. Designed by Carrozzeria Scattolini, it was fitted with a 125 cc Innocenti Lambretta engine. Around five vehicles were built each day in several two-seat versions, including a saloon, an open-top model and a small van.

Over the years, the original 125 cc engine was replaced first by a 175 cc unit and later by a 250 cc BCB engine, while the wheels grew from 8 to 10 inches. The microcar itself also evolved, increasing in length from the original 178 cm to 214 cm and eventually reaching 234 cm, while retaining the distinctive character that has made the Varzina a much-loved collector's vehicle.
