In the mountains two hours from Milan
Do you feel like getting away from the hustle and bustle so you can treat yourself to a relaxing break? In the vicinity of Milan you can find many more possibilities than you can imagine.
It only takes a couple of hours by car or train to find yourself in a completely different environment than the one you experience every day in the city. It only takes a few hours to reach breathtaking landscapes surrounded by nature and the purity of the country scent.
From the Lombard capital, it is quite easy to reach the mountains in the provinces of Como, Lecco, Sondrio, Bergamo and Brescia. Every mountain holds a surprise for us. Are you ready to discover them?
Let's start our tour from the province of Lecco. If you love skiing you will already know the Piani di Bobbio area, which also includes Piani di Artavaggio, Pian delle Betulle, Piani d'Erna, Piazzatorre and Valtorta. Artavaggio is the perfect resort for toddlers and beginners, while Piani di Bobbio and Valtorta will make skiers and snowboarders happy with their thirty-five kilometers of slopes.
Not a sportsman? No problem, the Piani d'Erna and Pian delle Betulle are the perfect place to stop and admire the unspoiled landscapes. And why not, to treat yourself to a nice steaming meal in a cozy lodge. The Piani di Bobbio are not an exclusively winter destination: thanks to the summer opening of the cable car, they are also very popular during the warm season. An important indication dedicated to lovers of two wheels: to try, the Bike Park Gravity 0.
If you want to stay near the Lario, the Como area also offers great opportunities. Between Val d'Intelvi and Lake Como lies Sasso Gordona, with its fascinating routes through the ruins of the defensive posts of the Cadorna Line, dating back to the Great War. We recommend you take a trip up to the Prabello Refuge, which stretches out on a natural terrace from which you can let your gaze run over Lake Como, Bellagio, all the way to Bernina. Let yourself be enchanted by this wonderful landscape.
Did you know that the Via dei Monti Lariani is articulated above Como? This is a very scenic hike, stretching 125 kilometers, connecting Cernobbio to Sorico, passing through ancient mountain pastures. To walk the entire Via is no mean feat, but it is also possible to follow it for short stretches.
Could we ever fail to mention Valtellina and Val Chiavenna? It takes only a scant two hours to get to Chiavenna, a nice little town bearing the Orange Flag of the Italian Touring Club.
An ideal starting point to Madesimo and its snowy slopes, it is also the town of crotti and bresaola.
What could be better than a nice lunch of local delicacies? Still staying with the gastronomic theme, we certainly cannot forget Morbegno. A wonderful and special town located in Lower Valtellina, between the Rhaetian and Orobian Alps, this one has become famous for the Morbegno in Cantina food and wine event.
After delighting in the typical products and wines, why not take a trip to the supply chain down to the vines that produced them? The terraces of the Costiera dei Cech, with their vineyards, offer breathtaking views of the Valtellina.
If you then want to ski, an absolute must is Chiesa Valmalenco and the Alpe Palù Ski Area. The latter resort, as well as Aprica, another beautiful destination in Valtellina, is one among several mountain destinations that can also be easily reached by train, taking advantage of a specific Trenord promotion.
This promotion allows you to avoid or rather spare yourself the stress that arises from city traffic, which is why we offer a special package that combines train, shuttle and ski pass for access to the slopes.
In winter, you certainly cannot overlook Livigno and Bormio, ideal destinations not only for mountain lovers but also for those who love shopping and spas.
Last stop but no less important than the others is the province of Bergamo and the Bergamo Pre-Alps.
For a cultural excursion, we recommend a stop in Clusone. Stroll through the village, breathing a different atmosphere. Here you can also admire the famous "Danza Macabra," the famous 15th-century fresco that decorates theOratorio dei Disciplini. From the village, various itineraries depart that will take you to discover the nature and archaeological sites of the Upper Seriana Valley.
If, on the other hand, you prefer sports, just a few more kilometers will take you to the Presolana ski resort, which is also perfect for beginners.
