You take your car from Franscia into the Lanterna valley, a side valley of Valmalenco, almost to Campo Moro (1,974 m). You leave it at a small parking lot you come across just up the road, from where the trail to the Campascio and Campagneda alps starts. In sufficient snow conditions you put on your skis right away and follow the road that leads through the woods, first to the Campascio alps (2,078 m) and after a few meters of elevation gain to the Campagneda alps (2,145 m). We are in the area of the Cà Runcasch hut (2,170 m). Crossing the plain in an easterly direction we find ourselves under the steep ramparts of Mount Cornetto (2,850 m). Caution should be exercised in the presence of too much snow. Here the slope becomes decidedly steeper and it is important to proceed drawing the typical diagonals that characterize ski mountaineering ascents. You gain the small mouth immediately on the left of the Cornetto from which the Scalino vedretta opens to view. We then take to the right, continuing cautiously in a southeasterly direction. We face the terminal crevasse. If the snow conditions are good, it is closed and safe and we cross it with relative ease. At this point, having disposed of your skis, you can walk along the ridge to reach the large summit cross of Pizzo Scalino (3,323 m). Particularly along the terminal part of the ridge, ice axe and crampons are recommended, without disdaining the possibility of roped binding, especially in crossing the glacier with the risk of finding open crevasses. The alternative for the ascent may be to climb to the Cornetto not by the steepest route, but by reaching the Campagneda pass (2,626 m) from which you then climb to the right after a short descent along the glacier.

In Valsolda, on the Via dei Canti.

Atrail for the whole family within the Valsolda Reserve, where for a day you learn about the silences and sounds of the forest, from the roaring of deer to the chirping of birds. The route you follow in the first part of the itinerary is the Four Valleys Trail No. 3, which crosses the Soldo stream and climbs up the opposite slope, skirting the Ranco huts, until you reach the Valsolda Regional Forest. It is here that the Via dei Canti proper officially begins, which partly overlaps with what is referred to as the Wildlife Trail. Along the trail are installed about ten educational panels that illustrate flora and fauna and that and provide other useful information to learn in depth about the area traversed. A sound reproducer is also placed next to each panel, and by pressing the dedicated buttons, you can listen to the different species, so you can enjoy total immersion in the natuta. The trail's course is very gentle, leading up to Passo Stretto, a historic pass between the Solda and Rezzo valleys, continuing to the legendary Tana del lupo and continuing in the direction of the ancient settlement of Alpe Pessina now equipped as a rest area, the highest point of the Via dei Canti.
