The route from Arnoga to Rifugio Federico has a development of about 7 km.

Until just beyond the locality of Paluetta, the route develops on a pleasant, practically flat dirt road, which from the low parking area on the Arnoga hairpin bend follows the orographic left, crossing a forest of stone pines, spruces and larches.

Continuing to follow the road, one then reaches a bridge with wooden sleepers, and here the trail switches to the orographic right and begins to climb slightly, up to the Baite dell'Orsa, a characteristic nucleus of small dwellings once used as a maggengo, set in a truly enchanting clearing. Leaving this place, you now follow a well-trodden path through a beautiful larch grove, and with a few short climbs you reach the Agriturismo Caricc, at an altitude of 1990m.

From here the path becomes steeper, but about halfway up to catch your breath it will be possible to take a break on a splendid natural balcony overlooking an incredible canyon carved by the Viola Torrent. As the plants thin out then the climb ceases and a spectacular 360° view of the entire Dosdè Valley opens up, and the trail resumes being flat until the refuge, located shortly after the end of the climb. Walking times are about two hours.
