Teatro Sociale di Como will inaugurate this 2019/20 Season with Rossini's last written opera, Guglielmo Tell. An opera in four acts, it was originally written in French and later translated by Calisto Bassi in, it contains all the grandiose theatrical and orchestral elements of the 19th-century French style of grand opéra. Its ouverture, which is recognized as one of the most notorious orchestrations in the operatic repertoire, sets the scene to the story of the legendary Swiss archer who inspired rebellion in 14th century Switzerland against the Austrians.
