Valmalenco

A holiday in Valtellina to discover the Valmalenco, between outdoor activities and ancient traditions.

Valmalenco, perpendicular to the valley of Valtellina and set among the highest peaks of the Rhaetian Alps, from Bernina to Pizzo Zupò and the massif of Disgrazia, has always made the most of its natural resources.

While farming and pastoral activities were the cornerstones of the 20th century economy, with the exploitation of the forests and the extraction of slate and soapstone, in recent years the area has turned to tourism.

The mountains that surround this valley are among the highest and most beautiful in the Alps

Valmalenco is synonymous with sports and nature. Snow and mountain enthusiasts have the opportunity enjoy activities such as alpine skiing, snowboarding, telemark skiing , freeriding, cross country skiing and snowshoeing. Visitors can also go hiking and relax in the alpine huts, go rock climbing, fishing and go for a walk in search of countless mushrooms. For ice skating lovers, Valmalenco offers two different rinks . The Lanzada skating rink is located in Ganda, at the Pradasc sports centre, which is easy to reach from Valmalenco, or the skating rink in the sports centre of Caspoggio .

Don't forget to sample the traditional cuisine of the Valmalenco and Valtellina valleys. And for those interested in culture, be sure to visit the Bagnada Mining Ecomuseum. The area also offers a wide array of trails that will take you through Spriana, Caspoggio, Chiesa Valmalenco and the hamlet of Primolo, and the ancient rural villages (Braccia, Curada, Caspoggio and Cà Rotte between San Giuseppe and Chiareggio) or the age-old town of Scilironi in Spriana
