Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics

An event that looks to the future, sustainability and inclusion, immersed in the charm of the Lombard landscape and tradition.

Automatically translated

An event that looks to the future and innovation under the banner of eco-sustainability and inclusion.

These are the key values protagonists of the highly anticipated Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. A unique opportunity to enhance and relaunch the territory, its inhabitants, its potential and its cultural resources, leaving the country a legacy of enormous value in terms of economic but also social and cultural growth. A wealth that will give visitors to these Olympics a unique atmosphere in which to fully immerse themselves, aided by the natural beauty of the Lombardy landscape.

Enhancing an area also means safeguarding it by thinking about tomorrow.
And it was precisely by looking to the future that priority was given to sustainability and low environmental impact, recovering and enhancing some pre-existing structures. But that's not all: sustainable mobility, flexibility, reversibility, limitation of land consumption, management and economic efficiency, together with the creation of long-term value, the key words and objectives of this edition.

Inclusion and gender equality will also be of particular importance: those of Milan Cortina 2026 will be the most balanced Winter Olympic Games, with 47 percent female participation and a program featuring as many as 50 "pink" events.

The Olympics will take place from February 6 to 22, 2026 within 4 clusters distributed among Lombardy, Veneto and Trentino-Alto Adige(Milan, Cortina, Valtellina, Val di Fiemme) and in one city, Verona, whose Roman Arena will host the closing ceremony.
And to be even closer to athletes and sportsmen, fully enjoying the beauty of the territory, here comes "Road 2026," an online platform that includes all the Lombardy resorts, facilities, ski areas and ice palaces used by the athletes themselves, as well as information on the slopes present, difficulties, altitude, and all the possibilities offered to lovers of snow sports.

In an event projected toward the future and the importance of sharing, Milan is the right scenario for this event: with its ability to assimilate diversity, open up to innovation and the dynamism of transformation, it will be a protagonist of change along with Cortina, another key destination that will host the games.

In February 2026, it will be Milan that will give the GoLive to the third Italian edition of The Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games with a ceremony at Meazza Stadium. Some3,500 male and female athletesfrom 93 countries will compete for a place on the podium: 114 medalsineightsports and16 Olympic and six Paralympic disciplines. The date for the Paralympics is March 6, 2026.

Milan will be home to the main Olympic Village, the Media Centre-Exhibition Center and three competition facilities. The Olympic Village will be built from scratch in the area of a renovated former Porta Romana railway yard (to be later converted to student residences), while the main Media Centre, consisting of the International Broadcast Centre (IBC) and the Main Press Centre (MPC), will take advantage of space and facilities at the Rho fairgrounds.
The competitions, on the other hand, will be held inside three facilities for as many disciplines: field hockey, figure skating and short track. The competitions of the latter will be held at the Forum Mediolanum in Assago, already the scene of international events and for which a redevelopment and expansion of the current capacity (12,000 seats) is planned. Field hockey athletes, on the other hand, will compete at the Hockey Arena, which will be completely renovated, and at the Pala Italia Santa Giulia: a 15,000-seat arena that in the post-Olympic period will give the city a new multipurpose space in one of Milan's most important transformation areas.

Moving to Valtellina, there are four sites that will be the scene of the competition, intended for different specialties.
We begin in Bormio, a typical alpine mountain town that boasts a history dating back thousands of years.
From a spa resort frequented by the ancient Romans to a renowned winter sports venue, Bormio still shows in its historic center and in several corners of the town its ancient history, wealth and importance.
The town offers its guests miles of slopes for downhill skiing in winter.
Prominent is the queen of downhill slopes -also equipped for night races-, the "Pista Stelvio", which allows you to run all in one breath as real athletes do in two minutes plus a few seconds, 3,250 meters of real development, 1010 meters of elevation gain and a maximum gradient of 63%, arriving directly at the Ski Stadium in Bormio.
At the start, after the first few turns, you reach the Rocca jump, that is, a leap of a good 30 meters. Next, you reach the Sertorelli gully, a diagonal in which high speed is reached, and then face the Ermellini curves that lead to the most challenging and decisive diagonal of the course, that of the Carcetina. At full speed it ends with the San Pietro wall, a 45-meter jump with a 50% gradient. The final two hundred meters lead to the finish line, directly in Bormio, with the last spectacular jump of a breathtaking track.
According to experts, it is one of the most fascinating and difficult slopes in the world. It has even been called the "La Scala Theater of winter sports." It will also host ski mountaineering competitions, which becomes an Olympic discipline for the first time in history.

The freestyle and snowboarding competitions, will be held at Livigno's three venues-Sitas Tagliende, Carosello 3000 and Mottolino-are training venues for Italian athletes as well as other national teams. Seats range from 3,000 at Carosello 3000 to 10,000 at Sitas-Tagliende and Mottolino.
They will be supported by an Olympic Village housed within temporary structures that are expected to become residential modules.

Hosting the Olympics means offering thousands of visitors and fans the chance to get to know a region, such as Lombardy, rich in history, passion, creativity, art and traditions, for a journey full of experiences not to be forgotten.
