This tour starts from the Torba Monastery, crosses the Olona Valley cycle route, and ends at Castelseprio. You’ll be riding across trails and wades to reach the Archeological Park, the Castrum – a Lombard fortified military base – and the church of Santa Maria Foris Portas, one of the most famous monuments in the Varese area. Next stop: the Caronno Corbellaro hilltop, where you can admire a breathtaking view over Campo dei Fiori and the Olona Valley up to the Venegono seminary. A visit at Castiglione Olona, dubbed by Gabriele D’Annunzio as “Tuscan island in Lombardy”, is a must before retaking the cycle route. This cycle path starts from Castellanza and runs along river Olona and its valley, rich in history from the High Middle Ages.Part of this path covers the track of the former Valmorea railway, built in 1926 to connect Castellanza with Mendrisio.You’ll also be crossing the Medio Olana park and the Rile-Tenore-Olona park, and you’ll get to see the Torba Monastery (a Unesco site and a Lombard fortified military base with the Castelseprio archaeological park) and Castiglione Olona, known as the “Tuscan island in Lombardy”.
