Fishing in Sondrio and Valmalenco

4 fishing areas, on the valley floor on the river Adda, on the Mallero creek, or on the alpine lakes of Campagneda.

River Adda: the No-Kill area in Piateda
Piateda's no-kill trait is the "reserve in the reserve", the flagship of the entire Valtellina. Four kilometers along the river Adda between Faedo’s bridge and the Boffetto’s one. Banned for fishing for forty years, since 1994 it has been opened to fishermen who practice fly fishing only with the obligation to release their catch.
The fish fauna is made up of trout and grayling that - in size and number - make the reserve the most rich in opportunities at national level and one of the most prestigious at European level. An even more prestigious reserve given the quality of the fish hosted, born and raised locally. In fact, in Piateda no-kill area, repopulation is not carried out except with selected juveniles produced in the ichthyogenic center in Faedo.

River Adda: the fly fishing area of the "Sassella"
In the shadow of Sassella sanctuary, in 2002 the Sondrio Union Fishermen reserved a section of the river Adda dedicated to fly fishing with mouse tail and moschera. More than a kilometer of river that flows in a natural context, where fast screeds inhabited by respectable grayling alternate with loops and deep holes, the ideal habitat for "important" trout. Only three fish per day can be kept, with a minimum size higher than that established for the traits open to all techniques. More restrictive standards that guarantee a decidedly high quality standard.
Apart from the irises occasionally sown as fish ready for fishing for the most impatient fishermen, the section hosts fish born and grown on the spot, supplemented by stocks of selected juveniles produced in the ichthyogenic center in Faedo.

Stream Mallero: fishing near Chiesa Valmalenco
In order to expand the tourist offer that is concentrated around the tourist centre of Chiesa in Valmalenco, the Sondrio Union Fishermen together with Consorzio Turistico Sondrio and Valmalenco have decided to set up a series of special sections capable of satisfying the needs of the most different fishermen along the streams Mallero and Lanterna. To complete the offer is the section reserved for children, a place of easy access that allows children to get closer to fishing in a funny and safely way, with a comfortable refreshment point behind them.

Fishing in the Campagneda’s lakes
For those who know the highest part of Valmalenco, the plateau of Campagneda is one of the most beautiful and evocative places available to trekking enthusiasts.
Between 2000 and 2300 meters above sea level, depending on the attitudes of each one, the plateau can represent the point of arrival for a pleasant walk or the starting point for much more demanding climbs on the majestic Pizzo Scalino. Since 2014 the offer linked to fishing in glacial lakes has been enriched with an additional opportunity, since the first of the four natural reservoirs has been reserved for fly fishing and moschera fishing only, while the other three continue to be available to all fans.
Given the altitude, the best months to catch the trout swimming in the mirror of water are certainly the summer ones, with particular attention to the early morning and late evening hours.
Precisely to allow fishermen to enjoy fishing in this wonderful environment as much as possible, the Sondrio Union Fishermen together with Consorzio Turistico Sondrio and Valmalenco have made arrangements with shelters and accommodation facilities in the area so as to guarantee boarders and lodging at reduced rates.
