Looking forward to the festival of the potato in oreno

This festival takes place in September every second year in the “piazza San Michele” and in the centre of the small village of Oreno (Vimercate).

The main star of the festival is the Biancona, the white potato of Oreno which first featured on the tables of Lombardy’s renaissance banquets and can be used in many different ways.

Over two long weekends there will be a variety of stands at the festival offering home-made food and gastronomic delights, but there will also be children’s entertainment, live music, historical re-enactments, medieval markets and processions in traditional costumes, cultural shows linked to the region’s history and farming traditions.

Every other year, there is a promotional event called “looking forward to the festival...” which is similar. Thousands of people will visit the village on this occasion.
