Eddy Merckx: the Eightieth Birthday of a Legend
June 17, 2025 – Eddy Merckx Turns Eighty
The Ghisallo Museum is proud to honor the 80th birthday of the greatest cyclist of all time by organizing an exhibition dedicated to his extraordinary and truly unique career.
In just over a decade, from 1966 to 1976, Merckx won 5 Tours de France, 5 Giros d’Italia, 7 Milan–Sanremos, 5 Liège–Bastogne–Lièges, 3 Paris–Roubaix, 2 Tours of Flanders and Lombardy, 3 World Championships, and the Vuelta a España. He also broke the hour record and triumphed in countless other races. He remains the only cyclist in history to have achieved the Giro–Tour double three times in the same year.
Through significant objects, photographs, archival documents, newspapers and magazines, historic footage, and key testimonies, the exhibition retraces his life — filled with glorious victories, thrilling challenges, and unforgettable achievements — often conquered in spectacular fashion, with grit and determination, defining an era in cycling and global sport.
The exhibition will open in May and remain on display through September. During this time, a series of special events will be held, featuring Merckx himself (either in person or via video) alongside friends and rivals from that legendary era.
The exhibition is included in the museum admission.
