Teglio walk - Verida - Palama - Ravarola - Teglio
Difficulty: easy
Type: loop
Walking time: 1 hour and 30 minutes
Suitable for families with children (section church of San Pietro - Palama)
The route starts from the small Romanesque church of San Pietro, continues along Via Lazzaroni to the Verida district, where - at the end of the road - you take the uphill road on the left and then turn right onto a wide dirt road.
One enters a broadly terraced area planted with fields. Here, depending on the seasons, rye, barley, potatoes and buckwheat alternate, according to the peasant tradition of rotation. In the valley one can see the lush hamlet of Somasassa, with the characteristic bell tower of the church of San Gottardo. Leaving a concrete track to your left, continue on the dirt road; at the next fork - at a typical stone rustic house - continue to your left. From this point, you have a beautiful view of the eastern part of Valtellina and can clearly see in succession the villages of Boalzo, Bianzone, Villa di Tirano, Tirano (overlooked by the mass of Mount Massuccio) and, in the background, the cone of Sernio.
At the Palama house, continue left skirting the buildings until you enter a chestnut forest; here the road narrows and climbs to the left with a hairpin bend.
After 5 meters, take the track on the right that-with a steep ascent-leads to the locality of Ravaröla through a mixed forest of chestnut, larch, linden, oak, tremolo poplar and birch, with a mouthwatering undergrowth of blueberry (5-minute walk, pay attention to the particularly exposed slope). At a large chestnut tree, turn left toward the complex of stone buildings. Past the tenements, the view opens to the Caronella Valley and the Gavazza and Torena mountains.
Continue on level ground in the direction of Teglio, entering the woods. You then reach a small building, beyond which, at the crossroads, continue left down a short descent in beaten concrete, going to rejoin the road taken on the outward journey.
You then return to the Verida district and, via Lazzaroni Street, reach again the small church of San Pietro.
