Val di Togno

Val di Togno is a lonely valley, untouched by mass tourism, that surprises visitors with its final part, Val Painale: here it becomes wider and sunnier, crowned by majestic peaks. Val Painale is linked to Valmalenco and Val Fontana through to two arduous passes and is therefore a closed valley.  Here, farmers used to produce cheese and ricotta.

The De Dosso hut (2119 m a.s.l.) in Val Painale, is a great departure point for those wanting to climb Pizzo Scalino or to reach Valmalenco or Valfontana.

Itinerary Carnale - Rifugio Val di Togno

Departure point: Carnale
Difficulty: medium
Elevation gain: 220 m
Time: 1.30 hrs
Suggested period: June - October

From Montagna in Valtellina, follow the signs to San Giovanni and then to Carnale.  Leave your car and take the well-marked path that crosses a wood and then a passage between the rocks and then reaches an equipped picnic area. A long tract of the trail is at an elevation of 1400 m a.s.l., then the path descents until reaching a small bridge over creek Antognasco (1305 m a.s.l.). Then a short climb leads to Val di Togno hut (1317 m a.s.l.)
