Church of St. Bernard

The church of San Bernardo is from the Renaissance period. It belonged to the parish until 1629, as a plaque on the left side of the entrance states.   "In this place were buried the inhabitants of Faedo until the erection of the parish - 17th century." The facade is low gabled, restored in 1976, and enriched by a beautiful millesimal portal in green stone with decorated shoulders and lintel. The interior has a single nave and a single altar in the apse. For years there had been suspicion, supported by popular tradition, that the paint covering the walls of the church of St. Bernard of Faedo, leaving only a fresco dated 1538 and depicting St. Roch in view, might conceal other frescoes. The stratigraphic investigation carried out in July 2008 confirmed the presence of frescoes on the side walls and apse. During the summer of 2010 an initial restoration work began, which brought to light on the north wall the stunning Last Supper, dating from the early 15th century. Restoration work, carried out by restorer Anna Triberti, continued in the summer of 2011 and 2012 and focused on the right side of the triumphal arch and part of the apse, allowing for new discoveries: a Virgin and Child Enthroned and Saints Bernard of Clairvaux and Anthony Abbot, attributable to Vincenzo De Barberis. Visit to Val Gerola

Val Gerola (from 400 to 2554 m a.s.l.) - formerly a settlement of immigrants from Val Brembana and Valsassina for cattle breeding and iron mining and processing, it is the undisputed home of the famous Bitto cheese, a PDO brand, named after the stream that runs through it on its way to Morbegno.   The Valgerola-Pescegallo ski area offers slopes and itineraries suitable for fans of downhill skiing, Nordic skiing, ski mountaineering, snowboarding and snowshoeing. The environmental heritage included in the Orobie Valtellinesi Regional Park is rich. Worth visiting is the Ecomuseum of Valgerola, in Gerola Alta, and in Sacco in the Pirondini district, the "camera picta," a 15th-century fresco cycle with one of the most beautiful images of Homo Salvadego, the typical inhabitant of the valleys, a symbol of Alpine peasant culture. Also worth seeing are the church of St. Bartholomew, already known in 1307, and the Oratory of the Brothers (18th cent.). There are numerous churches and shrines scattered in the various hamlets. In summer, enjoy nature by hiking trails and mule tracks or experience the thrill of flying hanging from a steel cable with the Fly Emotion. From San Martino to the Rifugio Luna Nascente

The route is simple, suitable for everyone and runs through the beautiful Val di Mello Nature Reserve in the province of Sondrio. It passes at the foot of climbing walls with epic names such as Abode of the Gods, Precipice of the Asteroids, Temple of Eden, and Metamorphosis Rock, a destination for many climbers in the summer season. From the village square of San Martino, in Val Masino, we head toward the Mello Torrent and ascend the valley floor on the trail that runs along the hydrographic left side (right side going up) of the torrent. During the ascent you cross a forest initially of broadleaf trees and then of larch trees to then plunge into the pastures of Cà di Scuma. Immersed in the Val di Mello, you pass the characteristic Cascina Piana locality and thanks to a small bridge you reach the Rifugio Luna Nascente, where you can have lunch and dinner of typical Valtellina products and warm up in front of the fireplace. It is also possible to stay overnight in warm, comfortable rooms and hike other nature trails the next day. In the winter season, taking advantage of the enchanting light of the full moon, evening snowshoeing is organized; you can thus admire this wonderful natural landscape with different lights and colors than usual, which contribute to making this experience different and unforgettable every time. - Ph: Margherita Pelizzari

Parravicini House

Casa Parravicini è uno dei pochi esempi in Valtellina di palazzo nobiliare in cui l'adeguamento dei locali per l'uso d'abitazione e la realizzazione di servizi e bagni interni non hanno stravolto la struttura architettonica originaria.
