Wine Bike Tour 5 - Hamlets
A tour of the small and quaint villages in the hamlets of Sondrio
The proposed bike tour is a scenic route that winds along the terraces of the Rhaetian side of Valtellina and enters the small and characteristic villages of Sondrio's hamlets.
These hamlets, where one can breathe in anevocative atmosphere that takes us back in time, have maintained their original appearance to some extent unchanged with rural stone houses, wooden balconies, wash houses, fountains, ancient votive chapels and popular sacred art frescoes.
Wandering among mule tracks surrounded by vineyards, orchards and vegetable gardens, the itinerary hides unexpected beauties all waiting to be discovered: the 15th-century church of St. Bartholomew, a giants' pothole and a cupped boulder.
Two stops should be planned: one to visit the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Sassella, a building dating back to the 15th century that enjoys a breathtaking view of the city, and, on the way back to downtown Sondrio, one to stroll through the alleys of the rural district of Scarpatetti and visit the precious MVSA - Museo Valtellinese di Storia e Arte.
