From Cassano d'Adda to Crema

In this stage you can explore the zone of Gera d'Adda, that is how this area between the rivers Adda and Serio are called. It is covered by cultivated fields and farmhouses between a few towns.   Traverse the historic center of Treviglio and look for a bakery that sells the Turta de Treì, a local dessert that can be only found there. You can stop at Caravaggio, boasting interesting religious architecture, not far from there. The Serio river is only a few kilometers from there. Follow it as it flows towards the Po. This road becomes tortuous and at times you will go into dirtroads. The round shape of the Santa Maria della Croce church will be a hint that you are halfway into this stage. There is lots of things to see in Crema, from the Cathedral to its aristocratic mansions: it might be a good idea to stay for an entire day. The tortelli cremaschi are an interesting dish filled with amaretti, spices, candied fruit and raisins that will give you an energy boost after a long cycling day.
