The paths of Spriana
To visit Spriana is to step into the past, discovering a small farming village
To visit Spriana is to take a step back in time, discovering a small farming village first mentioned in the 1300s that has suffered a drastic decline in its working population, which has abandoned the small agricultural center to settle in more industrialized areas.
Scilironi is undoubtedly a must-see: a group of houses built on the steepest slopes and connected by narrow, steep alleys with steps carved into the rock. The rural nucleus is clearly visible from the provincial road that connects Sondrio to Valmalenco and is particularly atmospheric at Christmastime, when roofs and windows are surrounded by luminous frames.
Also not to be missed is the hamlet of Marveggia, north of Spriana, where it is possible to admire typical houses with dry-stone masonry, but especially the remains of one of the ancient watchtowers placed to guard the ancient caravan road. The Marveggia district is also the starting point for reaching the Spotolo nucleus, walking along an ancient paved mule track that runs entirely through it.
Spriana is also easy to reach thanks to the Sentiero Rusca, the bicycle and pedestrian path that, starting from Sondrio, winds along the entire Valmalenco and reaches the Muretto Pass. Equipped with rich signage and rest areas, it is the ideal path to devote yourself to a slow rediscovery of the area.
