Pozze di Domaso

Just above Domaso, in the province of Como, the crystal-clear pools of the River Livo, also known as the Pozze di Domaso, offer a more secluded alternative to the lakeside beaches when it comes to cooling off in summer. 

The path to the Pozze di Domaso starts in the municipality of Domaso, where it is possible to park in Via dei Mulini or in the centre of town, near the Church of San Bartolomeo. Continuing up along the course of the river, the route is flanked by sections of smooth pebbles, little waterfalls and natural pools. 
This is a hike that invites you to discover the river landscape gradually. It doesn’t always follow a marked path and in some points, you will enter the river, cross from one bank to the other side, and seek the easier crossing points among the stones, following the course of the Livo. An adventurous but accessible outing that reveals its precious treasure at the end. 
Continuing upstream, you will come across various artificial waterfalls, at the foot of which the Livo slows down and forms pools of different depths and sizes: the Pozze di Domaso.  Some are nestled among the rocks, while others open out into wider basins, surrounded by smooth stones and rocks that you can stop on. Bathing is possible in the points where the waters are calmer, after checking the current, depth and conditions of the riverbed. 
When taking this path, it is advisable to wear suitable footwear for walking on wet stones and irregular surfaces. It is also a good idea not to go upriver along the Livo after heavy rainfall.
