Carona

Located in the heart of the Orobie, it has always been considered the pearl of the Upper Brembana Valley.

Carona (BG)

Carona is a small town in the heart of the Bergamo Alps, surrounded by pristine peaks, well known among ski touring enthusiasts. In fact, in the area near the Fratelli Calvi refuge, the Parravicini trophy has been held for more than fifty years a must for fans of this sport that allows you to live in direct contact with the mountain's extraordinary natural surroundings.

In Carona, you can enjoy a pleasant winter holiday thanks to the recently renovated facilities that make this a popular destination for those looking to enjoy the snow, with slopes and trails for all ability levels.

Enclosed in the Brembo Ski area, together with the neighbouring Foppolo and San Simone, Carona has an excellent snowmaking system so skiing won't be interrupted even in conditions of poor snowfall.

It is also equipped with a modern lift that leads up the slopes of the valley of Carisole above the village: in addition to the pleasure of going down the slopes with your skis, you can enjoy the splendid panorama overlooking the area and the picturesque nearby lake from the chairlift.

In the valley, however, the cross country ski trail runs around the lake, flanked by an ice rink, all immersed in nature.

When you take a walk in the small town of Carona, be sure to stop in the parish church of San Giovanni Battista, which houses some fine works by local artists from the 17th and 18th centuries, and in the oldest church dedicated to the martyrdom of St. John, on the edge of the town.

A half an hour walk from the centre of Carona, in the direction of the Fratelli Calvi refuge, you will encounter the ancient village of Pagliari, known as "the district of Stone", a handful of houses built with the mountain slate that preserves the evocative atmosphere of the past, when it was a thriving farming and commercial community. After years of neglect, many of the old rustic houses have been restored and it is a pleasure to stroll through its narrow streets paved with river stones in search of the most picturesque views, up to the square where the small church of San Gottardo stands.
