Candle production in Lombardy’s monasteries

Candle making is one of the many activities that take place in the monasteries of Lombardy. Would you like to find out where to buy them and where to learn to create them with your own hands? Follow us on our voyage of discovery through religious tourism in the churches of Lombardy.

One of the biggest candle-making monasteries is in Morimondo, where the community runs a whole host of cultural and recreational activities. For example, alongside the candle-making workshop are model-making and herbalism clubs. The courses teach participants how candles were produced in medieval times – simply contact reception if you'd like to sign up.

Candles are being produced at Poor Clares monasteries in Milan, Bergamo, Lovere and Bienno, with some artisanal masterpieces being created in the process. The monks maintain their charitable work by selling their wares: candles for weddings and baptisms and decorated candles – both round and in all manner of shapes and sizes – can be bought directly from the monasteries.

Tourism in Lombardy leads you to discover places of peace and spirituality, where the Benedictine mantra of "Ora et Labora" is still very much a part of life. Come with us and discover new religious experiences.
