The Muzza canal's green trail

The Muzza canal's green trail

From Selvino in San Pellegrino, passing through Lenna

This itinerary starts from ValSeriana and ends in the most important centre of the Val Brembana, San Pellegrino. The passage through the town of Lenna takes you through the historic bridge on the Brembo, in stone, with the typical humpback shape. Then reach Camerata Cornello and visit the historic village of Cornello, which gave birth to the famous family of Tasso, the inventors of the modern postal system to which there is a museum is dedicated. Also in Cornello, there is the church of Saints Cornelio and Cipriano: located at the highest point of the village, it has a curious leaning bell tower. Take the bike back to San Giovanni Bianco, where Arlecchino's birthplace is located, then take the Val Brembana cycle path and cycle through the spectacular tunnel that leads you to the San Pellegrino mineral Spas. Here you have arrived in the small town of Liberty, where the Casino, the Grand Hotel and the spa are perfect examples of this style of the early 1900s. Take part in a very special visit is to the Grotte del Sogno, a karst complex that takes you down underground, to admire the natural spectacles created by water and limestone. To end the day well, allow yourself a visit to the Terme di San Pellegrino: you will leave feel regenerated.

Retorbido Big Bench #124

Created by the Rotary Club Valle Staffora in collaboration with the Nuova Pro Loco and the Municipality of Retorbido, the Big Bench, the giant bench, is part of the Big Bench Community Project, number 124 of the project. The Big Bench located in Retorbido was installed in the airy and peaceful tranquility of the "colle delle Torricelle" (hill of Torricelle), from where you can enjoy an enviable panorama that spans from the Maritime Alps to the Brescia Prealps. From the hill, you can enjoy incredible views of the surrounding vineyards, the Madonna del Monte of Rivanazzano, and Retorbido itself. The more keen observers claim that, in particular weather conditions, it is even possible to see the monastery of the Sacra di San Michele, an iconic symbol of the Piedmont region, located at the entrance to the Val di Susa. To reach the bench, enter Retorbido from the roundabout of Bressana-Salice Terme, cross the village until you reach Via Torricelle. We suggest parking your car in Via Meardi and walking up Via Torricelle to the bench. The bench is also accessible by bike from the nearby GreenWay Voghera Varzi. For those who love walks and landscapes, for those who love running and wellness, 5 km of pure nature and relaxation with L'ANELLO DI RETORBIDO, 5 KM BETWEEN BIG BENCH, NATURE, AND LANDSCAPES.

A walk through the orchards in bloom

The blossoms in Valtellina’s apple orchards are an extraordinary spring awakening. Nature returns to the Rhaetian side of the Alps in April, from the province of Sondrio to Switzerland.   Along this natural border, the alluvial cones in the municipal areas of Ponte in Valtellina, Bianzone, and Semio-Lovero, fertile concavities forming a fan, are ideal for the creation of terraces, where vines and apple trees form the backbone of traditional farming life in Valtellina.  With the arrival of spring in the central Valtellina, there is an authentic sea of blossoms, with flashes of pink and white petals from the apple trees, releasing a sweet, delicate fragrance into the crisp mountain air.  This creates the perfect atmosphere for walks or bike rides around the orchards, using the flower-filled routes to create an itinerary where you can choose your own starting point for a day’s exploring. Cologna, Sernio, Lovero, Villa di Tirano, Chiuro, Ponte in Valtellina, and Tresivio are the locations where you can discover the magic of the apple blossom.   A floral excursion that offers its best in the sunshine, but also an opportunity to explore the characteristic local villages if your trip is affected by the weather. One of these worth visiting is Ponte in Valtellina, a traditional old village with a centre that seems suspended in the mists of time. Cobbled streets and old courtyards, plus uninhabited noble palazzos create a magical setting in which to discover historic churches and local restaurants where you can enjoy a typical lunch. Just over a 15-minute drive from Sondrio and 20 minutes from Tirano, Ponte in Valtellina is right between these two locations, and is a great place from which to explore nature and history in the spring.

Mount Lesima

The Le Torraie – Monte Lesima Nature Reserve and SCI (Site of Community Importance) extends over 598 hectares along the Torraie valley in the municipality of Brallo di Pregola, from the courses of the Avagnone and Trebbia streams to the 1,724 meters of Lesima's summit. Geologically, the site is characterized by the limestone of Monte Antola and the Corbesassi cliff. The reserve hosts hundreds of hectares of beech forests at higher altitudes and black hornbeam at lower altitudes. Along the ridge, there are extensive meso-xerophilous meadows of significant natural value, rich in species (orchids are abundant) and interactions with the pollinators that visit them. There is a station of Astragalus sirinicus, the northernmost in the Italian peninsula. Due to its geographic location, Monte Lesima (whose summit is less than 40 km in a straight line from the Gulf of Tigullio and the Gulf Paradiso) is influenced by Mediterranean climatic conditions despite being in a continental climate. The wildlife includes river crayfish, many diurnal raptors, including the golden eagle and the short-toed eagle, and among mammals, deer and wolves. Thanks to over 80 recorded species, the Lesima area is one of the richest in butterflies in Europe. Monte Lesima is the highest peak of the Ligurian-Piedmontese-Pavese Apennines. It is recognizable by the presence of a radar used for air navigation and the large summit cross. The western slope offers steep, grassy sides; to the east, it is steep and rugged. It dominates the valleys of the Trebbia and the Avagnone stream, its left tributary. "From the summit, there is an extensive view of the surrounding valleys and the entire Ligurian-Piacenza Apennines. One can recognize the Dego and Oramara mountains, part of the range between the Trebbia and Aveto; the Bue, Maggiorasca, Penna, and Ajona mountains, where the watershed between the Aveto and Taro runs. Between Lesima and Alfeo, the Boreca stream flows in a winding, rugged valley, one of the most fascinating in the entire Apennines" (from "Un'isola tra i monti" by Fabrizio Capecchi). On the clearest days, a glimpse of the Ligurian Sea can be seen. VISIT INFORMATION ON FOOT OR BY MOUNTAIN BIKE The Nature Reserve/SIC is accessible upon request via a dense network of trails, which can be traveled on foot or by mountain bike. Recommended Access Points: • Prodongo - Piani di Lesima • Brallo Giovà carriage road • Rovaiolo Vecchio • Piani di Cavanna BY CAR Brallo di Pregola can be reached by traveling the entire Staffora Valley from Voghera. Mountains with ancient history: Valle Camonica

These mountains guard a World Heritage Site and offer nature holidays spent climbing, walking and pedalling   ExcursionsThe Valle Camonica is a wide, level valley in the central Alps. Crossed by the River Oglio, dominated by the Adamello mountain range, the valley is home to one of the world’s biggest collections of prehistoric rock art, the first site in Italy to be added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites. This area, with its many lakes, mountains, nature parks and immense landscapes, takes visitors back ten thousand years on a journey in time from the Mesolithic period to modern day. 5 mountain refuges on a circular route of Val MalgaA lovely one-day trail from Ponte del Guat (Guat bridge) in Val Malga takes hikers across the valley, discovering the welcoming mountain refuges of Valle Camonica Premassone, Tonolini, Baitone and Gnutti. The latter marks the start of an alpine trail that then leads up to the top of the Adamello. The Val Malga hike calls for some care on the stretch between the Gnutti and Baitone refuges and can be completed in 4 hours. Meanwhile, those preferring a hike lasting several days can follow the Alta Via dell'Adamello (Path/Sentiero no. 1), a wonderful trail, but only for fit hikers carrying all the equipment needed for high alpine routes. It includes in fact some rather exposed via ferratas (with fixed ropes, ladders, etc.). This route goes from Breno to Edolo and must only be undertaken by very expert hikers or with mountain guides. Each stage and each mountain refuge are starting points for short-medium hikes. The route can however also be enjoyed as one-day hikes, thanks to paths that link it with the valley bottom. Three-day Glacier hikeThe Adamello also offers the chance to enjoy the experience of a hike to the glacier. The Pian di Neve is a hikers’ dream because on clear days it allows amazing views reaching as far as Monte Rosa. Mountaineering fans can, on the other hand, test their skills along the skills along the Sentiero dei Fiori, a panoramic ferrata that ensures incredible views, suitable for experienced hikers.. The Oglio cycle pathFrom gentler walks to hikes uphill or along the trails and steep downhill unmade paths:discovering Vale Camonica by bike is spectacular. A cycle and pedestrian path starts at the Passo del Tonale pass, linking no fewer than 280 km of paths along the Oglio riverbanks and winding through the varied landscape of the valley, until it comes to the banks of Lake Iseo and through the Franciacorta vineyards. For keen mountain bikers, the Adamello Bike Arena offers more than 500 km of trails between the Valle Camonica and Va di Sole valleys, even entering the Stelvio and Adamello nature parks. The Passo del Tonale also has downhill and free-ride trails. Bienno, one of Italy’s most beautiful villages In Biennio, which belongs to the Club de I Borghi più belli d’Italia (“The most beautiful villages in Italy” club) visitors get a chance to relive a medieval atmosphere. Walking down its streets, they can see characteristic houses, towers and noble buildings, visit the Fucina Museo (Forge Museum) with its impressive waterpowered trip hammer and the (also water-powered) mill with adjacent museum of country life. A must-visit is the church of Santa Maria Annunciata, which still has beautiful frescos by Romanino, one of the most important painters from the Lombardy school and by the local artist Pietr da Cenno and his atelier.    Highlights1. Art. Worth a visit are the Pieve di San Siro church and the Monastero di San Salvatore in Capo di Ponte, both evidence of Romanesque architecture in Valle Camonica, and the Shrine to the Via Crucis in Cerveno with the Sacro Monte, or Sacred Mountain. 2. History. Valle Camonica, also known as Valle dei Segni, or the Valley of Signs, conserves a huge heritage of rock engravings. The Naquane National Park in Capo di Ponte and the MUPRE (National Museum of Prehistory) in Valle Camonica are both must visits. There are other parks in Dafro Boario Terme, Ceto, Cimbergo, Paspardo, Sellero, Sonico and Ossimo. 3. Sport. Renowned as an active holiday destination in both summer and winter, Valle Camonica has plenty to offer (hiking, MTB and road bike paths, cycling tourism, climbing, skiing, snowboarding, snowshoe walking and much more) with Ponte di Legno - Tonale,Borno, Montecampione and the Aprica mountain pass. 4. Food and wine. Foodies should check out the local dairy products, especially Fatulì (a Slow Food Presidium), a smoked goat’s cheese made with raw milk from the Bionda dell’Adamello goat, which can be tasted in the mountain refuges in Val Saviore and Silter Doc, a mountain cheese made with raw cow’s milk. 5. Events. In June, the Fiera della Sostenibilità della Natura Alpina is a sustainability fair organised by the Valle Camonica Mountain Community – Adamello Park. A must-visit is the Market-Exhibition in Bienno, with over 200 exhibitors from all over Italy and stalls with typical traditional valley dishes. Finally, the “Del Bene e del Bello” exhibition of cultural heritage.
