From Pavia to Mortara

Discover the area known as the Lomellina by starting at the green shade of its forests.

Follow the Ticino towards south until its waters flow into the Po river.
You will find numerous small settlements that will give you the chance to regain your energy by taking short breaks. Once you pass Sannazzaro you will be in Lomello, the beating heart of the Lomellina. This city certainly deserves to be visited, particularly the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, a prime example of Romanic Lombard architecture and the baptistery that stands beside it. Do not miss the monastery of the Benedictine Abbey of Saint Peter.

Mortara is another important town of the Lomellina area and this itinerary's final destination. You can count with its railway station to comfortably go back to Pavia.
