Mantua, an award-winning city: Italian Capital of Culture 2016 and, since 2008, the UNESCO World Heritage Site, together with Sabbioneta.

Visit the historical centre with Palazzo Te and the Palazzo Ducale with the marvellous Camera degli Sposi, and then enter the eighteenth-century Scientific Theatre Bibiena, inaugurated by no less than Mozart himself.

The embrace of the three lakes hold Mantua: there is the Upper, the Middle, and the Lower and you can find them just outside the city. Created by the genius of Pitentino in 1190, the still regulate the flow of the Mincio River and are surrounded by green areas where you can have a break.

After a break, go back to Bagnolo. Steps from Governolo, where, as Dante wrote, the Mincio “falls in the Po”; this place also witnessed several battles, such as those of the 1848 riots. Follow for a little the course of the longest river in Italy and then go down to the destination of this itinerary, Bagnolo in Piano.
