The Marmitte dei Giganti Park, which includes the "Nature Reserve of Regional Interest" and the adjoining area classified as environmentally important.

It is located just outside the town of Chiavenna, and is situated on the slopes of the mountain complex that bounds the upper end of Valchiavenna to the east and the beginning of Val Bregaglia to the south.

It is easily traversed by following old mule tracks and paths that led to the ancient soapstone quarries.

The whole area presents landscape visions of particular beauty, impressive and fascinating geomorphological aspects that give rise to one of the most unique environments of the Alpine arc, a wealth of evidence of thousands of years of anthropic activity, historical and prehistoric contents of great interest, variety and exuberance of vegetation with particular concentration of the most significant and rare species collected in the adjacent botanical garden "Paradise".

This designation, by which geologists indicate a precise phenomenon, has been used by extension to identify the entire area of the nature reserve located just north of the town of Chiavenna.

Actually, the whole surrounding area is affected by geomorphological manifestations of glacial origin, derived from the shaping action of the huge ice flow that descended along the whole Valchiavenna during the last glaciation.
