An itinerary to discover the "Contado del Serpio" located between the province of Como and Varese.

This historical region was born as fines around the town of Castelseprio in Roman times and extended, in the phase of maximum expansion, up to the Canton of Ticino during the IX-X century. In 2011, Archaeological Areas, monasteries and monuments were all inserted in the list of UNESCO sites, which are among other numerous remains from the Longobardi age.

The path starts from the railway station of Como and ends at the Castellanza Station. If you do not feel like you can do the uphill section of Parco Pineta or Como, you can start from the Station of Venegono Superiore. Leaving from Como, you follow via XXVII Maggio until you reach San Fermo della Battaglia.

From San Fermo you continue on the lightly trafficked country road, and from here you pass the towns of Montano, Casarico, Olgiate Comasco Beregazzo, and Castelnuovo Bozzente, the home of Parco Pineta. After having gone through some ups and down, you cross through a forest from which the park gets its name. From here you'll reach Venegono Superiore where the Valle Olona cycling path begins.
