The magic Varese lake region stretches across Switzerland, Piedmont and Lombardy. It is an enchanted valley framed by the superb Alpine foothills of the region of Lombardy. The tour starts in Angera and borders the shore of Lake Maggiore, reaching Ranco and Ispra. Then, you go up the valley arriving to Brebbia, famous for its tobacco pipe museum, and to Leggiuno. From here, you take SS 394 heading to Switzerland until Cantevria (a diversion to visit Arcumeggia, a painted vilage, is possible), then you pass on SP 62 going down towards Varese, the end of this tour, where the renown Campo dei Fiori mountain can be also visited. Places to visit: Angera: The fortress, dating back to Roman times, as well as the doll museum, home to a rich collection with items spanning from the 18th century tothe present times, a one of a kind museum in Italy. Ranco: Famous Ogliari museum or transportation, a permanent outdoorexhibition where the whole history or road and railway transportation can beretraced. Ispra: Villa Castelli, Villa Quassa with Sezbare its park, Vila Brivio Sagramoso, CasaDon Guanella with a medieval tower and a "universal"clock. Leggiuno: Santa Caterina del Sasso hermitage, overhanging Lake Maggiore. Arcumeggia: he "painted village" where the houses' walls have been decorated by tamous artists. Superb views.
