The proposed Wine Bike Tour, winding up the steep rocky mountainside among vineyards, apple orchards and the traditional dry stone walls of the Rhaetian slope, takes us to discover ancient villages, buildings of great historical and artistic interest and countless wineries where excellent Valtellina wines can be tasted.

For history and art enthusiasts, a stop at Castello de Piro al Grumello, a building constructed in the late 13th and early 14th centuries, the church complex of San Giorgio, where Renaissance frescoes and 18th-century paintings can be admired, and the Church of San Fedele, guardian of ancient artifacts and a large Renaissance fresco, is a must. Continuing along the scenic road, it is also possible to visit the Sanctuary of Tresivio, the Holy House.

Halfway along the route it is recommended to plan a restorative stop in the historic centers of Ponte in Valtellina and Chiuro, two ancient villages symbolic of Valtellina's food and wine culture. The first, characterized by stone buildings and large wooden gates, is considered one of the most charming and fascinating in the entire province. The second, in addition to the beauty of its historic center, is famous for its artisan tradition related to woodworking, iron and the characteristic pezzotti, and is home to numerous important wine houses, so much so that it is considered the wine capital of Valtellina.

On the return trip, the itinerary winds along the Orobic side, following the course of the Adda River. Lovers of unspoiled nature should not miss the opportunity to visit the Bosco dei Bordighi, one of the seven nature reserves in the province of Sondrio: it covers 47 hectares between the municipalities of Albosaggia, Faedo and Montagna in Valtellina and is one of the very few remaining patches of riparian woodland on the river floodplain.
