From the Middle Ages onwards the Alto Mantovano has always been a border zone, therefore a point of many battles.

The sense of living on the border continued with the dominions of the Visconti then Gonzaga family and of the Serenissima Republic of Venice, at the beginning of the Sixteenth Century. In fact, the presence of towers and castles is linked to this particular situation that dragged on for centuries.

The circular path begins and ends from the Asola station. From the city centre, on secondary roads, you'll reach Castelnovo first and then Casaloldo. From here, always take the secondary roads and the antique Roman beltway, until you reach the centre of Piubega. The itinerary then returns on other streets in the centre of Casaloldo. From here, you can reach Casalmoro, taking you all the way to the embankment of the river Chiese, near the Asola Station.
