Among the alternatives, which in Valtellina allow you to observe rock carvings, we chose an easy route, among the vineyards on the outskirts of Sondrio.

It runs from the beautiful sanctuary of the Madonna della Sassella, along paths that climb the terraces of the Retico slope, between Castione Andevenno and the provincial capital. The rocky outcrop on which the church, dating from the 15th century, rests is clearly visible on the left, before entering the town coming from Lake Como.

The advice is to leave the car in the parking lot of the rock climbing gym (300 m) dedicated to Celso Ortelli and follow Via Valeriana for a stretch. A few dozen meters and on the corner of the Bongiascia houses some old steps lead to the vineyards. You go in for about a hundred meters finding a mounded stone on which anthropomorphic figures, a cross and what looks like a footprint are visible. Do not miss them, as they are not marked. Back on the road we arrive at the square of the Sassella church. We take path number 385 that climbs among the vineyards to the hamlet of Triasso (440 m), in Sondrio territory. From here, heading west (trail marker 306), we follow what is known as the Sasselle road.

We ignore the left fork for the hamlet Grigioni of Castione Andevenno. We go straight, the trail marker from this point is 406 and in a few minutes, before the contrada Moroni, on the right here are the signs for the rock site of the locality Ganda (530 m). In Valtellina it is second in number of engravings, a good 68, only to that of Rupe Magna in Grosio. We continue to the overhanging glacial terrace of Triangia (800 m), thus returning to the municipality of Sondrio. From the hamlet of Piatta (700 m), we are still in Castione Andevenno, follow the signs for the Sentiero della Memoria trail and find ourselves at a large boulder-altar.

As is often the case, it is in a dominant, panoramic position over the middle and lower Valtellina. We return to the Sassella sanctuary following path 385 that descends among the beautiful terraces, with their vineyards, passing again through Triasso.
