From Bobbio to Pizzo dei Tre Signori
In the fourth stage of the DOL (Dorsale Orobica Lecchese), we tackle the challenging ascent of the Passo del Toro, which gives access to the most alpine part of the walk.
Passo del Toro constitutes one of the most exposed passages of the itinerary, at times it can prove challenging until early summer due to snow accumulations. In their presence, it is recommended to avoid it by going to the summit at Zucco del Corvo and descending through a simple gully equipped with chains.
Beyond Passo del Toro the path becomes easier until the historic Rifugio Grassi where it is possible to have lunch. The walker enters the realm of iron, lead and argentiferous galena mines and crosses a splendid high mountain landscape with exciting encounters with ibex, chamois and marmots. The trail descends to Lago di Sasso to ascend to Rifugio Santa Rita, located on the watershed between Valvarrone and Val Biandino.
From Piani di Bobbio take the Sentiero delle Orobie Occidentali (CAI 101) trail to Cedrino Pass (1661 m). From there continue almost flat to the more important Gandazzo Pass (1660 m), which connects Valtorta with Introbio. Here begins the steep ascent, which zigzags and gains altitude towards the summit of Zucco del Corvo (1976 m): just below the summit is the infamous Passo del Toro, one of the most exposed passages of the itinerary, sometimes dangerous until early summer because of snow accumulations.
Past the Pass continue on CAI 101 trail, crossing the coast below Mount Foppabona, in the presence of Pizzo dei Tre Signori, still on the Bergamo side of Valtorta. Upon reaching Baita Foppabona, owned by ERSAF, maintain the route along CAI 101, which descends slightly to the right, thus reaching Rifugio Grassi. Once past the hut, continue again on CAI 101 trail at the beginning of Pian delle Parole and take Trail 80 on the left, descending until you skim Lake Sasso and then climb to Rifugio Santa Rita (1998 m).
Here you can rest or take the path again for 1.15 h and reach Rifugio Falc, thus approaching Bocchetta di Trona, to be reached the next day via the path called "della Tempestada."
