Noci park

The Parco delle Noci, located in Melegnano, is one of the first Urban Oasis built in Italy.

This fenced nature park, with an area of 32,596 square metres, is managed by the Sud-Milano chapter of the WWF. Owned by the Saronio company, the area was once used for agricultural purposes. Today, the park hosts a forest populated with trees and shrubs that are native to the Pianura Padana (Po Valley), a grassy lawn area, an orchard with species of trees related to the agrarian history of the plains, wetlands and a pond fed by the waters of the aqueduct. Some of the native tree and shrub species found of the woodlands include the oak, hazel and hornbeam.

The more humid wooded areas are predominantly populated by the black alder, the willow and white poplar. To increase the park's fauna, simple interventions have been undertaken, such as planting shrubs that produce berries in autumn and winter (acting as a food source for animals during the coldest months of the year) and the placement of nest boxes for birds. In addition to amphibians (including the toad, the symbol of the oasis) the ponds are inhabited by several species of fish, such as chub, carp and gambusia. In addition, the park has two brick buildings, one used as a classroom and the other as residences. The road of walnut trees, properly restored, is the path of the Park. The park is only open to visitors that reserve a guided tour.

A dirt path crosses a rural landscape at sunset, surrounded by golden fields and green vegetation.
