Visit the mill at the Abbazia di Chiaravalle

An oasis prayer and culture on Milan's doorstep, the Abbazia di Chiaravalle is rightly considered one of the most important Cistercian monasteries in Italy.

Founded by Saint Bernard of Clairvaux in 1135, it is a shining example of how a tiny agricultural hamlet dedicated to reflection and worship is also a place for the monks to put themselves to work and indulge their industrious sides.

One of the main attractions is the ancient mill, which was restored at the end of 2009 and now houses a museum offering fascinating educational experiences, including baking, soap-making and herbalism classes for all ages. A visit to the Chiaravalle mill is a stress-free experience, with guided tours explaining its history and charm.

The Abbazia di Chiaravalle mill is run by the Koinè cooperative, which also organises workshops of groups, schools and children. The facility – which is open to the community – are also used for lectures, summer camps, seasonal tastings and family celebrations.

Our pursuit of religious tourism is taking us on a journey through ancient trades, traditions and places of peace: come with us and start planning your visit to Lombardy!
