From Pavia to Milan: six stages to discover on two wheels.

Planning to go to Milan?

Take the long route and pedal through Pavia's countryside! Travel among its ancient villages and green plains until reaching the Darsena.

It goes along 40 kilometers, perfect for a sunday trip with the family or friends.

First stop — Pavia
Starting at Pavia, the city of 100 Towers and the Covered Bridge. Our itinerary begins where the Naviglio canal flows at the Ticino. Once you pass the last church, turn left and enjoy the view for about 8 kilometers.

Second stop — Pavia's Certosa
While riding among its meadows you will notice the Certosa of Pavia, a masterpiece of Italian Renaissance. This small esxample of religious art definitively deserves a visit: a monk will take you among the coisters and and prayer cells while telling you curious facts and legends about it. The church's cobalt blue vault and painted stars will astonish you. If you wish to take a less demanding ride and enjoy a relaxing afternoon, you should stop here.

Third stop — Binasco's Visconti Castle
More sportive types can hop on their bikes after the guided tour and go on towards Binasco. Once there you can stop at the Visconti Castle, ancient home of Filippo Maria Visconti and his wife Beatrice di Tenda.

Fourth Stop — Conca di Badile
Come on, you're halfway there! Once you cross the bridge, continue pedaling until reaching Conca di Badile, one of fourteen basins used by sailing boats to overcome the height difference of the canals.

Fifth stop — Rozzano's Ancient Spinning Mill
And, finally, you will arrive at the gates of Milan. Just a couple kilometers more and you will find the remains of the Ancient Spinning Mill of Rozzano.

Sesta tappa — Darsena, Milan
A little more pedaling and you will be at the Darsena, Milan's old commercial harbor that enjoys a new urban life thanks to the city's restoration efforts. How about the return? Athletic types will just get on their bikes and go back the same road. The rest of us can also take at the Porta Genova Station one of the trains that regularly reach Pavia.
