Four Panoramic Walks by Lake Como

Lake Como doesn’t need any introduction. It is one of the finest lakes in Europe, the deepest one, one of the most popular among tourists and citizens alike.

Having a 3-edge star shape, or one might say a running man shape, the lake is especially beautiful when observed from the tops of surrounding mountains and ridges.

Here we will virtually hike to the best panoramic spots above the lake to see it from a new angle. There’s so much more to the Lake Como than delicious food, cozy villages, breath-taking villas with their gardens, and relaxing boat rides. Let’s take a look!

To kick off our virtual tour through the panoramic trails we will start with best view on the central part of the lake. It is a little known viewpoint near the summit of Monte Nuvolone. It might be of a modest height compared to its’ neighbors and the whole alpine region but the view of the lake is one of the finest.

At an elevation of 2609 meters Monte Legnone is province Lecco high point and the highest mountain by Lake Como. It offers a spectacular 360-degree view with hundreds of peaks on the horizon. Ortler, Monte Rosa, Finsteraarhorn, Piz Bernina, just to name a few. But this beauty doesn't come free of charge. You have to take a demanding trail with more than 1200 meters of elevation gain to reach the summit. So, it is better to start early and take extra water and a lunch with you.For less experienced hikers and families we suggest walking to the summit of Monte Legnone smaller brother, obviously called, Monte Legnoncino. It is way closer to the Roccoli Lorla mountain hut and the parking area.

The walk to the summits of Corni di Canzo is a perfect plan for a weekend morning. It is a good workout, with a little bit of climbing. Apart from small bit of climbing the highlight of the journey is a close up view of the Grigna - an Ultra prominent mountain Lombardy, one of 22 Ultra in whole Italy. At the foot of Corni di Canzo there’s the SEV mountain hut with delicious food. The rest of the day could be well spent tasting Italian cuisine, relaxing and sunbathing at the lawn around the mountain hut.

Monte Berlinghera might not be a famous peak but panoramic views of Lake Como from its summit are matchless. This trail goes from San Bartolomeo (1,200m), via a halfway mark at Alpe di Mezzo, and straight to Berlinghera summit by the south-facing ridge.

This half day hike brings you to one of the best photo locations with epic views over Como Lake three legs junction. So, don't forget to take your zoom lenses. The area is very rocky which is unusual for the mountains around the lake. Probably this fact makes the trail very attractive.The trailhead to Monte Grona is located at a parking area not far from Menaggio mountain hut.

The trail of memories and labours

This trail was dedicated to the memory of the inhabitants of Castione who, in the past generations, walked along this path carrying heavy pack baskets. The path linked the highest part of the town to the valley floor and allowed people to carry out farm works.
