November in Lombardy: six dates for your diary

1. JAZZMI AND BOOKCITY
Milan | 1 - 13 November 2018, 15 - 18 November 2018
Milan is getting ready for a magnificent tour de force of music and literature From 1 to 13 November we will see the return of JazzMi. This event, now in its third year, has a more packed programme than ever It will be opened on 1 November by a jazz legend, the Art Ensemble of Chicago. It will be closed on 13 November by Paolo Conte, who is touring to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his song Azzurro. In between, there will be 210 events, including concerts, DJ sets, exhibitions, meetings and shows. After the jazz, the event-packed BookCity programme will start. Book previews, meetings with authors, readings, literary cosplay events and more. As ever, the base camp will be Castello Sforzesco, but the book fair also takes place in venues around the city. It involve schools, universities, historic buildings, public spaces, clubs, cultural associations and even private homes. So get ready, music and book lovers.

2. VALTELLINA WINE TRAIL
Valtellina | 10 November 2018
Nearly2000 bib numbers have already been allocated for the Valtellina Wine Trail, an autumn marathon that wends its way between the vines with forays into the secrets of renowned cellars. The 21km and 42km races are already sold-out but there are still places left on the 12 km run starting from Castione, with competitive and amateur options. One new feature this year will be a later start for the two long trails: runners will set off from Chiuro and Tirano at 2 p.m. The fastest runners will cross the 42 km finish line at sunset. The others will enjoy watching the sun set over the vineyards and will cross the finish line under floodlights. Runners arriving in Sondrio, will be met by pizzoccheri, bresaola and Valtellina wines for all.
3. SEGNI D’INFANZIA

Acrobats of Murikamification, back to front stories, Mini Biobliz and a treasure hunt among the plants and insects inhabiting city gardens For an educational but never boring weekend with the kids there’s nothing better than the Segni d’Infanzia (Signs of Childhood) Festival Theatre, cinema, music, dance, cooking, painting, nature shows and workshops for babies and children from 18 months old as well as adults of all ages. Resistant Amazon communities, the Ethiopian emergency, climate migrants, the Arctic and the big ships threatening Venice. The second staging of Bergamo’s biennial photography exhibition, sponsored by the Photographic Association with Denis Curti as artistic consultant, focuses on the environment, climate change and sustainability. It is summed up by its two-word title “Equilibrio Sottile (subtle balance)”. Exhibitions, meetings and discussions will be held at Monastero del Carmine in Città Alta. On 9 November at 9 p.m, there will be a tribute to Gianni Berengo Gardin with a showing of “My Life in a Click” by Max Losito, who followed the great photographer for eight years to shoot his film.
5. IL BONTÀ

Now in its 15th year, the local food and wine show offers travelling gourmets more than 2000 local products and 10 hours per day of tastings Stock up on good things, cheer on your Pizza King at the “mani in pasta” pizza-making final on 13 November and explore hoppy delights at the Special Beer Expo, a citadel devoted to craft beers. 2018 events include the Food Blogger Challenge award and a meet-up for Instagram food addicts.

There’s still time to visit Miniartextil, a sophisticated exhibition of fibre art in the former Church of San Francesco in Largo Spallino. Fifty-four mini-textiles in the centre of the nave form the heart of the exhibition. These tiny fibre and fabric masterpieces are made by artists from all over the world They are surrounded by larger works and installations Discover the art of Maria Lai and let yourself be enticed by Unwoven Light by Soo Sunny Park, which captures the light and then throws it back into the apse as thousands of iridescent fragments.
