Dinner on the atmosfera tram
There are lots of special places for a romantic dinner… but in Milan they have surely beaten them all, with their brilliant idea of ATMosfera, a restaurant on tramlines!
Two old wooden trams, two of many that used to rattle through the busy streets of the city, have been completely restored and put to new use. Each vehicle seats 24 people, divided among four tables for four and another four tables for two.
Passengers on this unusual restaurant are welcomed into a vintage atmosphere. Departures are every evening at 8 p.m. from Piazza Castello, next to the Sforza Castle. The approximately two-hour itinerary goes through some less well-known areas in the centre of Milan that are frantically busy during the day but now peaceful in the tranquillity of the evening.
Dinner must be ordered in advance when booking, from a choice of three options on the menu - meat, fish or vegetarian. For all options there are four courses, preceded by an aperitif.
Recipes vary according to the season and the dishes are prepared by great chefs, inspired by the traditions of Milanese cuisine, with some more contemporary touches. Dinner costs €70 per head – a not inconsiderable sum, but well worth it for special occasions, especially for the unique experience.
To be sure of a table you must book in advance, up to 75 days, online.
Want to organise something grander and book the entire tram for yourselves? For a truly special occasion, this is also possible!
