September in Lombardy: 6 unmissable events
September in Lombardy? We have chosen 6 unmissable events this week. For music lovers, bookworms, hungry gastronauts, cyclists (trained) and those who love to marvel at the landscape.
1. MITO SETTEMBREMUSICA 2018
Milan – Turin | Until 19 September 2018
16 days of music, 125 concerts. As the title of this unique festival suggests, it bridges two nearby centres, Milan and Turin (Torino). Two great cities just 50 minutes apart by train. The latest edition of the festival, held in Milan, will open on 4 September at Teatro alla Scala with a concert by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Until Wednesday 19 September, MiTo Settembremusica 2018 will stage dozens of concerts around the city sharing a single theme: dance. Many of the events are free. Tickets for paid concerts are on sale at the MiTo Settembremusica 2018 ticket office in Teatro Dal Verme, Milan.
Mantova | 5 to 9 September 2018
Festivaletteratura is all about cultural entertainment, five days of meetings, workshops, themed trails, concerts and shows with internationally renowned storytellers and poets, essayists, artists and scientists from all over the world creating literature in the loosest sense of the word. This year, the 300 authors flocking to Mantua will include Alicia Giménez-Bartlett and Jón Kalman Stefánsson. Where will Festivaletteratura’s “city of books” be in 2018? The honour falls on Prague, 50 years on from the Prague Spring. Don’t miss Scienceground, a space enlivened by a small temporary scientific community that will organise workshops, mathematical and computer games, reading groups and more… all open to the public.
3. MAESTRI DEL PAESAGGIO
Bergamo | 6 – 23 September 2018
Bergamo will host the eighth edition of I Maestri del Paesaggio. The historical Teatro Sociale in Bergamo Alta will stage the International Meeting of the Landscape and Garden from 21 to 22 September. Every year, an internationally renowned landscaper is invited to create Green Square, an installation that transforms Piazza Vecchia into an extraordinary garden. A series of hands-on public events will also be staged throughout the city. This year's illustrious guest is Piet Oudolf, a Dutch plant designer who has created such designs as “High Line” in New York and Chicago’s “Millennium Park”. For 2018, he will create a lyrical and astounding Green Square in Bergamo.
4. SAGRA DEI CROTTI
Chiavenna (Sondrio) - Until 9 September 2018
