Ottocento Lombardo: from Hayez to Segantini

The exhibition offers an exploratory journey in painting and, more generally, in the culture of Lombardy in the nineteenth century. Starting from the romantic season, passing through the Risorgimento experiences and the disillusioned rebellions, the path leads to the social commitment of the end of the century and to the divisionist research.
It begins with the Romantic season, in which the figure of Francesco Hayez, master and model of entire generations of painters, stands out. And then again: Giuseppe Diotti, Giacomo Trecourt, Massimo d’Azeglio and Giuseppe Molteni.
The path then passes to the period of the Wars of Independence, with works dedicated to the Risorgimento themes. It then closes with a last step on verism, which touches social characters, and the divisionism, whose great artist is Segantini.
